Why coaching?

Is coaching for everyone? I’m sure it is, if you want to be coached. As a freedom fighter (you will see) like me, coaching is a better process to mentoring. As mentoring is more providing answers while sharing knowledge and experience, while coaching is being asked questions that I get to answer my self.

Already in January I shared that I felt a need to explore myself (you can read about it here). As I wrote in that post, I’m the kind of person who likes to explore and expand thoughts about myself and life. In a very hands-on way, I like to challenge the way I see and interpret both myself and the world and I am open to learn new things, and getting new perspectives, which might give me a richer life. That is just how I am.

I have taken part of coaching in different forms over the years. Both personal and from a leadership perspective. I remember my last coaching period, about ten years back, one of my colleagues was so tired of my constant search for improvement she said:

“Why can’t you just be content with were you are?!” Probably because I wasn’t, but I stopped talking (so much) about it. But after terminating my employment to become self-employed I have had challenges incorporated in being on my own and not to forget (as I wrote in my “searching post”), I have been happy with were I’ve been for the last 8 years.

In an conversation with a friend (who also is searching) I gave her the unwanted advice that maybe she should get a coach. Maybe not to find the exact path for her future, more to curiously explore what options there are infront of her. And then it struck me – that is what I need to do. As my assignment was on it’s way to expire a little earlier than expected, the timing was perfect. So I did. As usually I went from thought to action in about 60 seconds and contacted Linnea Molander, Happy Business and 10 minuted later I had signed up for a new coaching period.

In my next post I will share what I expected to get from the coaching, stay tuned.
