To be needed

Without knowing anything (or very little) about psychology I believe “to be needed” is very fundamental for us humans. That’s why a context for us humans is so important. To be in a context, any context, is more important than the right (if that is what’s offered).

To get a text from your offspring wondering if my schedule would work for him to get a lift home left me with a good feeling. Even if his need is purely selfish, me picking him up would go much faster than using public transportation. But I don’t care! I’m needed. And I love it.
