Just watched “A mother’s courage: Talking back to autism“. A great documentary about what autism really is.
Besides the obvious, to be reminded of the fact that we all should be happy for what we’ve got, especially if health (whatever that means) is one factor. It was also a great eye-opener of how increadible narrow-minded I am (and most probably many of you to).
I do not blame anyone for it, it is very human. But also I, who count myself to the enlighted ones and as someone who claims to constantly question my actions (in a positive way, most of the time), was dazzled of how much I do not know or understand about the basics of our brain.
I became uncomfortably aware of how much this ignorance influence my parenting and, in the long run, limit my children.
I will now work even harder to accept my children for what (who) they are and not be so quick to judge if/when they do things slightly (or a lot) differently then I do.
