Today is my last formal day of vacation. Since midday on July 7, I haven’t done anything that could generate revenue – except for delivering new loads of books to retailers.
It’s the same every year. I get a little depressed as my annual leave comes to an end. I am exceptional at it: not doing anything. I had to rack my brain to remember the password for my latest client (I just logged in to see when my first meeting is on Monday). A great sign. Actually, I have been so successful at forgetting that I worked a few hours in July that I almost forgot to report and invoice them. I think it’s brilliant (and a little sloppy).
The annual leave has been great. For once, we did more than we usually do. Did I mention that we are great at doing nothing, to truly recharge? Our first week, we did so much that the introvert in me almost needed to take a sick leave. I will caption the summer vacation of 2026 “Friends.” I have made room for seeing my friends. That feels like a wise priority.
We also had a photographer over to take exterior pictures of the house, just in case we run into our dream home. We were going to do both interior and exterior, but then I realized it would require so much work (not just cleaning the house), so I wisely scaled it back to just the exterior, in summer attire. Now, we just need to find that home of ours.
I had a dream of two DIY projects. Fixing the gate and a pergola. It became fixing the gates (plural). One much more advanced the other, very not advanced and one wonders why we hadn’t done it sooner…
