Elusiveness

It feels like humankind’s desire to own and possess everything has gone a little too far. And I think lilacs and poppies are trying to teach us a lesson about that. They are a challenge to survive, let alone thrive, when captured.

I think their refusal to survive inside is nature’s—almost passive-aggressive—way of giving us the middle finger. It’s a quiet protest against our urge to steal beauty for our own selfish pleasure instead of letting it belong to everyone. It reminds us that some things are meant to be observed and enjoyed, not owned, and that keeping them alive requires real knowledge, not just a desire to possess.
