Ambition and the lack of it

Hmmm, I remember a conversation last summer with a friend who has kids in the same age as myself. She was frustrated over her son who is a smart dude, but just didn’t spend very much time doing homework. Resulting in OK grades, but if she new that if he only spent an hour more, his grades would BOOM. And maybe was her biggest frustration was that he’s fine his results.

I experience the exact same thing. What to do? On one hand I don’t want my kids to get all nervous about grades. But on the other hand I would like them to just get understand how smart they are and what they could accomplish with just a liiiiiiitle more effort. So I try to push a little and at the same time let them take their own responsibility.
