Bye bye

Today we did the thing we have been dreading since spring. We put down Tummen. Our beloved Ridgeback who's been part of this family for over 10 years.

Tummen was a handsome male with authority and a coolness I never seen at another dog. But 12 years of age took a natural turn. His hips got worse during the hard winter, and already this spring we decided that after the summer, his favourite season, we would let him go.
But saying goodbye and letting go is hard for one self. I still feel his soft fur from the last pet from this morning's good bye pat. I know that it was the right thing to do, but I still mourn the fact that I will never see him again.
I'll post some pics of the best dog ever another day.

I am so very sorry. We had to put Starbuck down in January because she had Lymphoma and was suffering. She was just 3 years old. I will always miss her. Some dogs are just special that way. I know how much it hurts to let go of a beloved friend and I am thinking about you. (hugs)

Thank you for you thoughts. I know it was the right thing to, but the selfish part of me thinks it is terrible. The fact that I won't (at least for some time when the time is here for me) will see him again, can almost be incomprehensible.

[…] That’s how Tummen (the Thumb…, his registered name was something something Commando) entered our lives. A big 45 kg, beautiful Ridgeback male, kind to everyone. I think we got him around 2000/2001 and he left us in 2010. […]
