I just had two great days with the greatest people in my life.
The family went to the World of Astrid Lindgren. In a very humble way and most probably very far off the extravaganza that might come with other amusements-parks (therefore in a very Swedish way), my kids (and me and the man) had the best days of our vacation so far.
Together with friends we enjoyed many of her characters. There are many great thing about the park, but the top things are:
- The plays (different ones) are played more or less all day (with some exceptions) so walk around and stop where YOU (your child) want. Stay as long as you want or go to another character. No need for stress.
- In between plays the actors interact and invites the children to join them on the (nature) stage. The actors ability for improvisation play is amazing. They go with what ever they get and if they don't get anything they do something with that as well.
- Some of the characters are walking around in the park and offers improvised plays if you talk to them. A colleague of mine had Karlsson-on-the-roof stealing some of her daughters pancakes, with the attitude that only Karlsson has. We met the thieves of Pippi Longstocking who wanted to sell some of the stolen goods. Shortly thereafter the policemen King and Klang and the children, after some misunderstandings, caught the thieves.
- Finally, there are good enough numbers of restrooms and they spread all over the place.
Growing up with Astrid's stories myself I have come to love the way she has captured the Swedishness, the nature and way of living. Leaving me with the not so very common sense of patriotism, of how happy I am to be a Swede.
Our kids favourites became Ronja the Robber's daughter for Sam and Pippi and Emil of Lönneberga for Fabbe. My favourite was to see the enormous pride in Fabian when his big brother came up with the right saying (with some help from dad) to scare off a soldier. Priceless.

how cool! Fun!
Yes, it was fantastic!
