Time to say goodbye and hello?

I already have said good bye to Facebook, a couple of days ago I deleted my SnaptChat (which I only had to communicate with the kids, and some people ) and TikTok I never been on. Twitter was discarded years ago, before luny tune purchased it. Maybe it’s time to scrap Instagram to.

The only thing of value to me on Instagram is a group chat with some highschool friends. But I can call them instead and have a meaningful conversation one to one or send an e-mail or a group text. And, if I want to share content about my life I have this blog 😀.

But still I love the connection and force sociala media can be. I’m just not liking how the current set-up, where platforms get too much centralised power. That it has turned into commercial tools rather than social media between friends. And naturally I get the notion of them being puppets for anti-democratic powers.

No, I’m not a conspiracy theorist, I’m just telling what I see.

I like to read and learn about others and find out what’s happening in the world (and get some confirmation that not everybody is narcissistic psychopaths) and possibly digitally join a movement.

So what alterantives are there? I’ve heard about Mastodon and Bluesky. But
then I’m not a Facebooker or Twitterperson. So I’m looking to Pixelfed.

What I understand Mastodon and Pixelfed are open source and by that decentralised platforms. So I can move to a different server if the head of my current gets extreme viewpoint. I’m not stuck, which is important to me. I can take my stuff and friends and leave.

So, I guess I will not leave social media. I will just move. To something that I think is more inline with my values and what social media was all about.

I will update here if when I have moved in.

Ps. Changed my primary browser to Duck Go Go
